An immersion suit is a protective suit that helps protect the wearer from hypothermia (getting very cold).
Some immersion suits have buoyancy built in; others require the wearer to wear a lifejacket.
Vessels that are required to comply with SOLAS, (Commonwealth surveyed vessels) have the following carriage requirements for immersion suits:
