Help position

The Heat Escape Lessening Position (HELP) should be assumed on entering the water if you are alone.  This position will preserve your body heat for as long as possible if you are unable to 'Huddle' with others or board a liferaft.

Group Huddle

If you are in the water with company the best way to retain heat is to form a very tight group huddle.
You will also be a lot more visible to any rescuers looking for you.
